Saint-Jean-de-Luz: on the basque coast, assets are rare

Along with Guéthary and Biarritz, Saint-Jean-de-Luz remains one of the most expensive towns on the Basque coast.
The real estate market in the resort is one of the most active in the Basque Country, with the pulling power of Saint-Jean-de-Luz Bay a constant magnet. The resort has not only managed to preserve its village atmosphere with its typical old houses and fishing port, it has also succeeded in the feat of protecting itself from the concrete blocks that have disfigured far too many coastlines. After a relatively dynamic year in 2016 in terms of the number of transactions, real estate activity at the start of 2017 remained significant.
"More than usual at this time," according to Valéry Epaud. An opinion shared by many of his colleagues.
Pierre Deglaire was somewhat cautious: "The start of the year is a little quieter in terms of the number of transactions due to an uneasy political climate in this presidential election year, associated with a projected reversal of earnings which destabilizes buyers.” Nonetheless projects to buy or sell are on the increase, and the market fundamentals with numerous buyers and a declining inventory of sellers remain.
