ajestic 15th century citadel on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Bay of Hendaye, at the mouth of the Bidassoa. The citadel comprises 2 buildings and a square tower. In the structure's centre is a paved plaza open onto the sea. A double surrounding wall with watchtowers protects the whole property landside.
The buildings have a great deal of charm. First, there are great vaulted rooms with large windows looking out onto the courtyard beneath a porch, and second, a vast room open onto the sea with a huge fireplace. The buildings are all connected with each other at ground level. There we find several large vaulted rooms with small windows looking onto the inner courtyard and the sea. The square tower, which is completely empty, offers multiple development possibilities.
The walls and roof are in perfect condition. The interior is sound and dry and the floors are beautifully preserved. Interiors can be finished with a mixture of materials, glass, steel and concrete which can easily fit into this unique setting. The gardens can be terraced and planted to shelter the rooms facing the sea. The swimming pool can fit into the rocky hollow at the tip of the property. Looking at the building from the land, one senses a great feeling of peace coming from the place as though time had stopped, trapping and protecting such a fragile environment within its walls.
